How PRN works

There may be times when you can help often and times when you can't help at all. That's the beauty of PRN.

1

Tell us when you're free

Share the days and times you're generally available. Update them any time.

2

We text you

When we have an opportunity that may fit, we send you a text.

3

Accept or decline

Can help? Accept it. Can't help? Decline it. No pressure to accept, and no guilt for declining.

4

Show up for the family

Once you accept and are confirmed, we must be able to depend on you.

Two teams, equally important

Choose the team that fits your experience. You are on one team at a time.

On-call opportunities

For the PRN CNA Team. Signing up is flexible. Being on call is not: once you sign up, families are counting on you.

Flexible to sign up

Pick the shifts that fit your life

Here's a sample week. Choose one time or every week, then tap an open shift to try it.

Mon3Tue4Wed5Thu6Fri7Sat8Sun9 Daytime7am to 5pmTakenTaken Overnight5pm to 7amTaken

✓ Find an open shift on your own PRN Team page. Take it one time, or make it recurring and keep it every week.
✓ Daytime, overnight, or both for a whole day. Weekdays or weekends.
✓ See 4 weeks ahead. Pick a few shifts or many. The office confirms each one.
✓ You're paid for each on-call shift, plus your PRN rate for any shift you're called in to work.
✓ Not signing up never counts against you.

Strict once you're on call

Our On-Call Expectations

You read and sign these before your first on-call shift.

  1. On call comes in two shifts: daytime, 7am to 5pm, and overnight, 5pm to 7am.
  2. Keep your phone on and with you. Answer the office, or call back, within 15 minutes.
  3. Be ready to start a shift within 1 hour.
  4. If the office calls you about an open shift during your on-call time, you cover it.
  5. If you don't answer the office within 15 minutes, or you don't cover the shift, you won't be paid for that on-call shift, and you won't be able to sign up for on call again.
  6. If something comes up, call the office at least 24 hours before your on-call shift starts. To stop an every-week on-call shift, call the office at least 24 hours before the next one starts.

Training and growing with us

You start with paid training from home, and you can keep growing from there.

1

Paid orientation

Paid orientation and training from home, on your phone or computer, in pieces if you like.

2

Optional courses

Extra courses are offered when a client's needs call for them, and you can ask for courses that interest you.

3

Field Support Visits

Experienced PRN CNAs we approve can step in for more advanced care and help train caregivers in the home, like a Hoyer lift refresher. Paid at your PRN rate.

4

Room to grow

Move to regular hours, earn your CNA and join the PRN CNA Team, or help train others.

Want more hours later?

PRN can lead to a regular schedule, if you want one.

It is never required. If you'd like to move to a regular schedule with an ongoing client, the ongoing rate is $16 an hour for caregivers and $18 an hour for CNAs.

Questions we hear

What if I say no to a shift?

That's fine. No pressure to accept, and no guilt for declining. You'll keep hearing from us when an opportunity may fit.

How will I hear about shifts?

By text, when we have an opportunity that may fit the days and times you told us you're generally available.

Is there a minimum number of shifts?

No. There may be times when you can help often and times when you can't help at all.

Which team should I apply for?

If you hold a current CNA certification, apply for the PRN CNA Team. If not, apply for the PRN Caregiver Team. You need at least a year of paid caregiving experience for either one.

Can the PRN Caregiver Team be on call?

To start, on-call is for the PRN CNA Team. If you earn your CNA, you can join the PRN CNA Team and choose on-call times.

How does hiring work?

Apply online in about 2 minutes, then a 20-minute in-person interview at our Springfield office. After that you can do the rest from home: paperwork online, a 15-minute Orientation Video Call, and paid orientation and training. See our recruitment process.
